Houston Street, New York

You don't have to look for style during fashion week. You can find it in the streets...

Berlin posters and a must have Berlin bag to take home from fashion week

I hope your first day of the fashion week in Berlin is going well. If you are already thinking of buying a good souvenir to take home I can help you with a few ideas:

At my last visit at a designer's market around Christmas I have noticed two stands that were pretty popular. I could totally see why. One was selling  Berlin posters. What is special about them? Apart from the great design, most of them were silk-screen-printed posters which provides a different depth in colors and they look more 3 dimensional. Honestly, so far the nicest posters I have seen around and the city is flooded with crappy printed material on Berlin.

If you need more info on where you can get those rare pieces have a look at SOB poster. Please be advised that they come in limited editions only. The designer himself  Marcus Fischer-  is a really talented photographer and graphic designer. You have probably seen his work in ad campaigns, magazines and on Berlin's advertising columns. Check out his website if you want to see some more of his work.

This bag is just hilarious and can only be bought through Facebook. It's called "Mitteopfer" which means Mitte-victim. Mitte is called the center part of town in Berlin and stands for a quite exclusive lifestyle. The guy drawn on the bag describes the perfect stereotype of the typical Mitte guy. So, it's a must have bag for fashionistas. Hmmmmm, I wonder what a Soho victim looks like?

The Standard, New York - a design hotel

If you come to New York and you can't stay away too far away from Diane von Fuerstenberg, Alexander McQueenCatherine Malandrino or other designer stores, your first option would be to check into "The Standard" What I like about it? It is one of the few hotels in the city that has fresh modern design interiors versus heavy furniture which is mostly preferred by the "old money" generation. This place is a hideaway for esthetes, artists, celebs and just in general, a more dynamic, less boring crowd of people who appreciate a good wine list, good food, good company and an exciting lifestyle.

The two connecting buildings which stand on three columns are placed right above the famous Highline . Lots of light comes into the rooms as the entire front is made of glass. This way you have a great view on the hudson river or you can take a bath surrounded by the inspiring city lights and never really feel alone on your constant travels. Another reason why you will never feel alone is Stan - or better Stan D'arde. The hotel's voice that will constantly keep you posted on what's going on in and outside your temporary home. The Standard has a very specific culture that communicates with his very specific guests. Check out Stan's blog and get a feel for it. It's a lot of un.

Colorful urban fashion in New York

Will blue still be in this year?  I think so. In any case, we will find out after next week's Mercedes Benz fashion show in Berlin.

It's nice to see that there are some men left who dare wearing color without being tagged as gay. It's never too much if you know which colors to combine.

Fashion between nostalgia and mania

I have taken the pictures below in two different neighborhoods in New York. One was taken in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn and the angel-like looking girl was captured on Avenue A in the East Village. I am never sure if some of the people that I photograph actually put a lot of thought in what they are wearing when they get ready for the day or whether it is a random choice of clothes. I admit, there is no doubt that "Andre 3000" on the picture below puts a lot of effort into making his choice.

Well, whether some people are aware of it or not they use fashion to express themselves in different ways. The pics below are two extreme examples of my daily encounters - the hyperactive and the daydreamer. I enjoy both looks. Have you ever thought about your fashion moods? Do you look different everyday or do you work with the same 3 outfits that you have throughout the whole week?

H&M versus or with Marni

Yesterdays post is getting more and more interesting. Korean fashion experts are now telling me that the street model that I photographed was nobody less than Jung Nam, Bae, a famous male model from Korea. It looks like he is getting even more media exposure since he has been captured by number one fashion blogger Scott Schumann.

Anyway, we want to keep things grounded here and want to continue  by admiring our next street model that I captured on Houston street. Apart from her being a natural beauty she really knows how to combine cheap & high fashion in one outfit. Her coat for example is by H&M and her shoes the lovely socks by nobody less than Marni.

Style Zoomer versus The Sartorialist

Is the world really that small?

I was having a look at one of my favorite fashion blogs (The Sartorialist) when I noticed that Scott Schuhman photographed the same street model in Seoul that I had photographed a couple of months ago in New York. Funny coincidence or maybe we just have a similar eye for style ;-)

Have a look at his street model from Jan 9th and see for yourself.

And here goes my shot!

Last call for Peter Lindbergh exhibition in Berlin

If you love fashion photographer Peter Lindbergh as much as I do you can visit his exhibition at C/O Berlin but you have to hurry! It closes January 9th. The gallery is a beautiful and unusual space that is worth to be seen and has exhibited other world known photographers like e.g. Annie Leibovitz. It is an A-list address for modern photography in Berlin.

my favorite photo is honoring choreographer Pina Bausch: The original photo has a handwritten message saying "Pina, I just wanna quickly tell you how much I miss you" on it.
